What do you get when you cross Hyundai's sporty little coupe with a dedicated off-roader? The answer is the Veloster Grappler concept, which will be officially unveiled at the SEMA Show 2019 in Las Vegas early next month.
Based on a standard Veloster, the Grappler offers increased ground clearance and excellent approach and departure angles to overcome uneven terrain and large obstacles. Of course, the oversized off-road tires on Method Racing wheels with rally motif also help.
For extra off-the-beaten path protection, special front and rear brush grids have been installed, while additional front and rear lights have been added to increase visibility in the forest or at night.
Speaking of roof, you've certainly noticed the big Thule basket with the spare wheel (that's right, there was not enough space to accommodate it like a normal replacement under the car). Interestingly, the basket also serves as a base mount for the detachable solar panel that powers a fully electric portable power plant mounted in the cab for long-haul travel.
Custom vinyl packaging features ghostly Hyundai-style paint and the Seibon carbon fiber hood effectively dissipates excess engine room heat.
Within the Veloster Grappler concept, an integrated roll bar provides occupant protection, while the list of adventure and emergency equipment includes traction mats, an oversized utility bucket, breakdown assistance, first aid kit and an outdoor dome tent. Premium Recaro seats feature a vintage houndstooth check pattern.
This all looks very exciting. When can we take a spin, Hyundai?
