Sports in the Sport Utility does not mean track days and curve carving. It means you take the less traveled road to activities like hiking, fishing, biking or whatever lies on this dusty path. But some SUVs are better than others when it comes to driving off-road. We'll compile a list of the best SUV options if you want to leave the sidewalk and drive towards sand, dirt, mud or rocks.
The top 10 best off-road vehicles
Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk uses air suspension that allows it up to 10.8 inches of ground clearance to climb over logs and downslope. It can be equipped with either a 3.6 l V6, 3.0 l diesel or a 5.7 l Hemi V8. 18-inch wheels carry all-terrain Goodyear All-Terrain Adventure tires with kevlar reinforcement to protect them from rockfalls and keep the Jeep from riding flat on the track. These include underride protection plates to protect the front suspension, the transfer case, the fuel tank and other parts of the subfloor if you misjudge one or two obstacles. It also has towing hooks in case everything goes wrong.
The Quadra-Drive II 4 × 4 system has an electronic limited slip differential and five modes to improve the power supply. In the "Downhill" and "Uphill" modes, the Grand Cherokee can accelerate and gently roll you over steep gradients. As a result, it easily found its place on our best SUV off-road list.
Toyota 4Runner TRD PRO
In a world of trucks, crossovers, and off-road vehicles, one might think that each of them can be controlled from paved roads, steered on unbeaten trails, and easily driven across rocky terrain. Not so fast. Many popular trucks and SUVs tickle your off-road fantasies with their rough appearance and bold features like Adventure (see Toyota RAV4), but they lack the necessary equipment to venture far into the terrain.
We've put together a list of legitimate ATVs you can buy in 2019. Some have serious trail ready extensions, including reduction gears and four-wheel drive, raised suspensions and limited slip differentials. Others benefit from advanced four-wheel drive systems and increased underbody protection to keep otherwise normal trucks and SUVs stain-resistant.
The Toyota TRD (this is Toyota Racing Development) offers off-road versions of the 4Runner SUV. The 4Runner has always been an experienced off-roader, and the TRD Pro model enhances that. The 4.0L V6 offers 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque.
The TRD Pro gets some big upgrades of the suspension, such as: B. TRD springs with a stroke of 1 inch at the front and Bilstein shock absorbers front and rear. With the remote reservoir, the shock absorbers can function perfectly even on uneven terrain. The four-wheel drive system has a limited slip differential and a reduction gearbox. It also has crawl control off-road cruise control. So you can go downhill slowly, without losing traction, and then start the other side again. Underneath is a sturdy, 4 cm thick aluminum protective plate that protects the underside. The 4Runner TRD PRO is rounded off by 17-inch alloys with Nitto Terra Grappler off-road tires.
